This time, I decided to take my mom on Royal Caribbean's Independence of the Seas Cruise to Cozumel Mexico. My family and I are big time cruisers and have cruised out of many ports. The port of Los Angeles where we live is lacking in nearby shore excursions unlike the ports in Florida. The Ship was out of Fort Lauderdale and we enjoyed a couple of day trips filled with animals and nature before and after our sailing.
Last week, my mom and I found our way to Flamingo Gardens which is a cool little wildlife sanctuary, everglades and botanical gardens not too far from the port. There was so much more to do and see than we expected. Lots of wildlife, shows, a museum and tram to take you around the grounds.
The cruise and Cozumel themselves were great. Because we have cruised Royal Caribbean so much, we have finally reached Diamond Class status. Which is a fancy way of saying you are granted some priority, invited to a few parties on board, and LOTS of free drinks...which is great cause those bar tabs add up fast! So the suggestion here is that if you find a cruise line you like..stick with it and join the rewards program. The benefits do pay off!
After the cruise we made our way to Lion Country Safari, where you are able to drive you car through herds of wildebeest, giraffe, monkeys and other wild animals. Sad to say that the pride of lions were fast asleep and doubled caged away from the road, but it was still a cool experience. That being said, It was a good week of outdoor Floridian family fun.
